The Bubble Maze

We made a hedge maze in our back yard!

I call this hedge maze the Bubble Maze because it has round pocket gardens throughout that look like bubbles from above!
The design was inspired by the Van Buren yew hedge maze in Brussels, Belgium. Our area was quite irregular (as you can see), so the irregular pattern of the Belgian maze was an easy starting point.

This is a drone shot of the newly-installed maze. Yaupon hollies make up the hedge, while the pocket garden at bottom right is bordered in rhododendrons in a variety of pinks. The grass paths have been seeded. Perennials will go into 2 bubble areas. A new mosaic birdbath will go into one bubble. A grouping of mosaic thrones will go into another bubble. Decorative wrought iron arches and gates will mark the entrance and exit. I will update with more photos as the plantings grow in, and as I create the mosaics.

Turner Landscaping Installations Inc., of Concord, NC made my vision a reality. Irrigation installed by Landscapes Beyond of Troutman, NC.

The path grass is starting to come in, and some of the flowers are blooming…
